Plight and Profit
While the process of creating art can certainly be therapeutic, it can also be extremely frustrating. Anyone who has ever attempted an artistic endeavor can attest to this. To visually conceive of a concept in one’s mind is a challenge in its own right, let alone to find the most appropriate medium, style, and method with which to express each vision. A dedicated artist will rework a drawing, painting, etc. as many times as she deems necessary to achieve a product that reflects her own inspired image of perfection; this is a truly daunting, and frequently infuriating, task. Conveniently, however, the triumphant feeling of accomplishment that comes with the completion of an artwork practically erases the emotional agony of previous projects. It seems to me that this paradox is both the plight and the profit of the artist.
